WINFAP & ReFH2 Academic Licencing

Students and lecturers in the UK can use Wallingford HydroSolutions hydrological software for educational purposes at no cost.
We work closely with universities and colleges, giving them the opportunity to embed key industry tools within their curriculum and teach students how to use commercial software. This enables future graduates to gain essential hands-on experience, giving them a head start when beginning their careers.

What is provided with an educational licence?

Each academic licence provides multi-user access for a 12-month period, enabling entire classes to use the software at once.

A licence can be renewed on an annual basis by submitting an updated academic licence agreement. We manage the extension remotely, making it quick and easy to update.

For research purposes, you can obtain an annual cloud-based license at a 50% discount.
Research use means use for bona fide research to further a body of knowledge, the resulting research papers of which, will be disseminated widely and without delay within the academic community or in the public domain. Such research papers will not be held for the exclusive information or use of the research sponsor or sponsors or in any way restricted from access to the academic community or the wider public.

What software is provided?

Under an academic agreement, we can provide WINFAP which enables you to estimate peak flows and flood frequency curves for gauged and ungauged catchments, using the latest Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH) methods.

ReFH2 is also available, which enables you to estimate design and observed flood hydrographs for rural and urbanised ungauged catchments across the UK. Using ReFH2 in conjunction with the FEH Web Service, you can estimate runoff rates and volumes for specific development sites.

Both of these tools can be used alongside Flood Modeller.
