Welcome to the final instalment of our free online training series, Flood Modelling 101. Building on the first two sessions, covering hydrology fundamentals and 1D river modelling, this interactive session introduces the essential principles of 2D modelling.
Led by Shauna Martland, Senior Hydraulic Modeller at Jacobs, the session will guide you through when and why 2D modelling is most effective, and how it plays a vital role in flood risk assessment. You will gain insight into the minimum data requirements, the key components of a model, and the step by step process of setting up and running a basic simulation using Flood Modeller.
Designed for professionals who are new to 2D modelling or those seeking a refresher, the session provides a clear and accessible foundation. You’ll learn how to interpret and visualise 2D results, explore common troubleshooting techniques, and understand how to link 1D and 2D models to create more robust simulations.
By the end of the session, you will have the confidence to begin building and analysing your own models in Flood Modeller. This overview of the fundamentals ensures you leave with practical knowledge and a strong starting point for applying 2D modelling in your projects.
