Flood Modeller’s GIS-like, user-friendly interface delivers an intuitive environment for building, running and analysing models. It offers superior workflows and support for multi-screen working.

The interface comes with default components such as a main toolbar with contextual commands at the top, project panel and layers panel on the left, modelling toolbox on the right, network panel, nodes panel and time step buttons at the bottom right and map view in the centre.

The main toolbar contains multiple tabs that each contain a series of functions and tools that are grouped together by the category of the tab name. Some example tabs are 1D Build, Results, etc.

Each component of the Graphical User Interface can be moved to a different location on the page (Dockable Work Canvas) and even onto a different screen if you use several monitors (Multi Monitor Support).

Project Panel

This panel shows all files that are currently loaded as part of your project, such as event data files, initial conditions files, simulation files, etc. These will be automatically loaded every time you open your Flood Modeller project; alternatively you can load files individually by right-clicking on the relevant type. For example, if you want to load an initial conditions file for your model, you can right-click on this option in the panel, select Add Item and then browse to the location of your *.iic or *.zzs file. You can also remove data from your project by right clicking and selecting ‘Remove’ from the displayed menu.

Layers Panel

This panel shows all the currently loaded layers (datasets) in your map view. Each entry will have a checkbox (to enable/disable layer visibility), an icon (to show the layer type) and a title (filename). The active layer is highlighted in blue, and any disabled layers are greyed out.

When you right-click on a layer, you will be presented with a number of editing options depending on the type of layer you have selected. The options available to you are described in more detail in the Layers Panel help section.

Map View

This view is the part of the Flood Modeller interface where your active GIS layers and model data will be displayed. On this View the active model will be visualised with background GIS layers. You can zoom, pan, measure and query data by selecting from the options at the top right of your map view.

Network Panel

Clicking the Network Panel button will display a table listing all nodes in your active model network; and below, the initial conditions associated to these. The initial conditions can be edited in this window.

Nodes Panel

Clicking on the Nodes Panel button will display a table listing all nodes in your active model network, ignoring how they are connected. You can click on the column headers at the top of the table to sort the nodes, for example by name or by type or to filter nodes to only display one selected type.

Toolbox

The Toolbox combines all the key model editing functions into one simple panel. The functions are grouped by category, for example 1D network tools are all located in the first set of tools, whilst 1D model build tools are in the next set of tools. This grouping helps you navigate to your desired toolbox function more easily.
