Model rivers, floodplains and urban areas at the right level of detail, using our powerful 1D and 2D solvers

1D solver

Developed for 40 years, our 1D solver has become one of the fastest and most robust solutions available, making it an ideal choice for flood modelling applications.

The 1D steady and unsteady state solvers provide a comprehensive range of methods for simulating flows and water levels and can be confidently applied to a range of applications.

2D ADI solver

The ADI solver has been developed for fluvial, overland, estuarine and coastal modelling problems where the flow is not rapidly changing.

It is quick, accurate and robust, and is based on the long-established depth integrated velocities and solute transport (DIVAST) numerical engine which was first developed in the 1980s.

2D TVD solver

The TVD solver has been developed specifically to provide accurate representation of two-dimensional ‘shocks’ (rapid changes in water surface profile).

This solver allows complex hydraulics to be calculated more accurately and provides increased stability as TVD simulations are less prone to numerical oscillations than other solvers.

2D FAST solver

The FAST solver has been developed to enable rapid assessments of flooding. It provides results up to 1,000 times quicker than traditional 2D solvers.

Providing results in seconds or minutes, as opposed to hours or days, different types of flooding can be rapidly screened, considerably reducing the cost and time spent modelling.

Key features

Powerful solvers

Provides industry-leading, fully hydrodynamic 1D and 2D solvers that are designed to work independently, or together, enabling dynamic interaction between 1D and 2D models.

Fast simulation times

Developed for over 40 years, our solvers have become one of the fastest and most robust solutions available, making it an ideal choice for flood modelling applications.

Hydraulic structures

Includes a wide-range of hydraulic structures for both 1D and 2D models. The calculation of level and discharge is fully automated by the software. Structures with automatic operation incorporate logical control rules.

Hydrological boundaries

Provides embedded tools for modelling hydrological events, it can model both short and long-term hydrological events, direct rainfall, evaporation and infiltration, as well as water demands and abstractions.

Available for free

All of the great features within Flood Modeller Pro are also available at no cost for smaller modelling projects in Flood Modeller Free, limited to 250 1D nodes or 100,000 2D cells.

Intuitive user interface

Incorporates a user-friendly interface that delivers an intuitive environment for building, running and analysing models. It offers superior workflows and support for multi-screen working.

Third party integration

The functionality of Flood Modeller Pro can be extended, and linkages to pre-existing models formed, by integrating with third-party software such as BMT WBM's TUFLOW, EPA SWMM and Deltares Delft-FEWS.

Technical support

Over 96% of our clients annually renew their support and maintenance contract for Flood Modeller as it provides extensive benefits. Whichever licensing option you select, technical is available from the Jacobs global support network.

Specialist training

We provide cost-effective and well-structured training that is flexible and tailored to clients' specific needs.Scheduled and bespoke training courses are available.

Open file system

Built on an open file system, integrate Flood Modeller Pro with your own workflows. It enables users to view and edit model data files and integrate custom tools quickly and efficiently.

A range of analysis and flood visualisation tools for spatial data are provided at no extra cost, allowing data to be shared with key stakeholders.

Multiple domains

Allows any number of 2D domains with different cell sizes to be built into a model. This is extremely useful when a model incorporates urbanised and rural floodplains which require varying levels of detail.

Harness the full potential of Flood Modeller by utilising a wide-range of tools to streamline your projects.

Flood Viewer

An intuitive tool that lets non-technical users effortlessly view and interrogate model and other flood-related data without the need to purchase any software.

Flood Cloud

An innovative service that enables users of Flood Modeller and TUFLOW to seamlessly undertake flood risk modelling, at any scale, in the cloud.

A link allowing flow and water levels to be exchanged between Flood Modeller and TUFLOW (including ESTRY), providing the user with greater flexibility in producing an integrated model.

1D flood calculator

An easy method for quickly converting your 1D model outputs into a variety of standard GIS formats, enabling the impacts from your modelled data to be visualised and interpreted on a map.

Layer converter

Improves modelling efficiency by allowing users to take advantage of different datasets. It converts existing GIS datasets (shapefiles or grids) into different formats, including grid shapefiles, outline shapefiles, Google Earth files or alternative grid types.

Damage calculator

Use grid and property data to ascertain flood depths at each property location, and combine these data with the associated depth-damage curves to calculate the damages to properties in your study area.

SWMM link

The SWMM link combines the 1D and 2D functionality in Flood Modeller with that of the US EPA SWMM model. Where pipe networks overflow, links to Flood Modeller and can be incorporated to model the resulting surface flows and possible flood scenarios.

Sediment transport

Predict the sediment transport rates and patterns of erosion/deposition in river channels or to study sedimentation problems for both uniform and graded sediments.

Water quality

Simulate advection / diffusion of conservative and decaying pollutants, water temperature, cohesive sediment transport, interaction of quality determinands with sediments, phytoplankton and pH.

3D viewer

Designed for simple visualisation and animation of flood mapping data in three dimension, enabling you to superimpose a water surface onto a loaded ground grid layer.

Results extractor

Extract model results across different return periods, storm durations and model runs. Checks are carried out to ensure that the results are valid which are then pre-formatted for report tables with additional data drawn from the model.

Health checker

Removes common modelling errors and assists in making models run faster, and with better convergence. It also incorporates some automatic and user assisted error fixing which allows the user to solve common modelling problems.

Automatic interpolator

Specify a maximum spacing between cross-sections and apply interpolate units, where necessary, to the model or selected reach(es). The is appropriate where for stability purposes, finer resolution of the watercourse is required and survey data not available.

Calibration file editor

Remove the manual process of having to create calibration text files from specified data. As well as preventing mistakes, it improves the efficiency of the user, and allows modelled and observed quantities to be easily compared for calibration and verification purposes.

Conveyance plotter

Display the calculated channel conveyance against stage for a river section unit, either on a cross-section plot or on its own. This provides the modeller with a quick reference to check that conveyance increases monotonically and smoothly with stage.

1D simulation builder

Improve the speed of common model building and editing tasks using the 1D simulation builder. Automatically build multiple 1D simulations from combinations of network files, event files and TUFLOW control files.

Reservoir and spill generator

Seamlessly interrogate underlying Digital Terrain Model (DTM) elevations to create new spill and reservoir (floodplain) 1D units within your model.

HEC-RAS import

Flood Modeller allows you to import cross-sections defined in HEC-RAS models, automatically converting them to Flood Modeller 1D cross sections, removing the manual conversion process.

EACSD import

Import validated survey data in the standard Environment Agency (England) Channel Survey Data (CSD) format directly into Flood Modeller.

Batch runner

Quickly build up a batch run of multiple simulations from your project. The simulations are managed by Flood Modeller and are run concurrently or sequentially depending on available processors. A batch can be made up of any combination of model types, including TUFLOW.

2D event duration

Interrogate 2D model outputs to ascertain how long the modelled floodplain remains wet or maintains a depth above a specified threshold.

Optimise storm duration

Automatically vary storm durations in all hydrological boundaries (FEH or ReFH) within a 1D model to ascertain the durations that lead to maximum impact at a specified location.

Global edit

Quickly investigate sensitivity of 1D models to selected parameters, such as roughness, by editing entire networks in a single operation, e.g. increasing values by 10%.

Delft-FEWS adapter

Our industry-leading flood modelling software integrates with Deltares' flood early warning system (FEWS) to provide a state-of-the-art hydrological forecasting and warning system.
