Flood Modeller Pro's Results Extractor is an advanced automation tool specifically developed for collating and presenting 1D model results. It provides an efficient way to gather, organise and validate complex model results and reduces the likelihood of user error as well as saving time.

Testing has demonstrated that using the Results Extractor can be up to 100 times faster than completing the steps manually. It can work across a large set of simulations (for example, 10 runs representing different return period flows through the same network) and has two basic modes. ‘Long section’ mode extracts maximum water levels, flows and related data for all relevant nodes, where as ‘time series’ mode extracts hydrographs at selected nodes.

The tool generates formatted graphs as well as CSV format files (for loading into Excel, etc.). It also produces files to assist with documenting the audit trail, support model checking as well as other outputs that make it easier to load results from multiple simulations into a database (e.g. node label, X/Y coordinates, maximum flow, freeboard).

How to use the Results Extractor

The tool can be accessed via the: Toolbox > Model Results > 1D Model Results Extractor and works with the network that is currently active in your project (i.e. displayed in the map view).

The extractor opens in a new window prompting you to select which results you want to extract (this also provides the option to browse to other networks to analyse). It works directly with .ZZN results files and model .DAT files. Settings can be saved and loaded to and from the Results Extractor Profile files (*.IHP). Once the Results Extractor is open:

  1. Use the ‘Add’ or ‘By Path’ buttons to load 1D results files (.ZZN)

  2. Add a short reference name into the RP column for each simulation (e.g. 10yr). An automated name extractor is part of the tool but requires a specific naming convention for the results files (more details in the Help)

  3. Click ‘Harvest’ on the front tab to extract the ‘long section’ data – graphs will be presented in the ‘Graphs’ tab and CSV file tabulations will be written to the folder as input data

  4. In the ‘Time series’ tab, add nodes (by typing, pasting or loading from a .lng list), adjust the options in the tab if necessary, then click the ‘Harvest’ button on the tab. The graphs tab will now show time series plots and CSV files of the extracted data.
