In this month's tip, Dr. Beccy Haunton, Client Services Manager for Flood Modeller, provides a quick and easy solution to finding 'missing' windows in Flood Modeller.
If you are using an older version of the software, you may have previously tried to open a unit or view a cross-section plot, but find nothing happens. At the bottom of the screen, you can see the tab for the unit or plot, but clicking on this doesn’t appear to do anything.
The window has opened, but it's actually appearing off-screen. This usually happens when the window has been moved previously; onto a second screen or near the edge of a large screen; and a new PC setup means this window position is no longer visible. The formsed.ini file is only ever created once - the very first time you install the software, and therefore reinstallation does not reset the window position.
The solution
Flood Modeller 4.6 automatically resolves this issue, however if you are using an older version of the software, you can retrieve your 'missing' window, follow the five steps below:
Close Flood Modeller completely
Locate your formsed.ini file and open in a text editor: C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Roaming\Flood Modeller
Scroll down to the section(s) on layout and adjust the values for “top” and “left” to 0 as shown below
Save and close the formsed.ini file
Reopen Flood Modeller and the issue should be fixed
A potentially quicker and easier solution is to hold down the 'Windows' key on your keyboard (once you've selected the relevant window) and press the directional arrows to move the window back onto your screen.
