2D GPU solver | Up to 94% faster using a laptop GPU

We are extremely excited about the forthcoming release of Flood Modeller 5.1 which will see the introduction of our new 2D GPU enabled solver.

Using the very latest in GPU acceleration techniques, we have redefined the standard for speed and accuracy. Our existing code will now run on NVIDIA GPUs, providing you with modelling results significantly faster than before.

There is no need to go and purchase expensive high end graphics cards as the speed benefits are accessible to everyone by using just a standard laptop GPU.

Using the new 2D GPU solver is…

✔ Easy to set up – exactly the same as any other model

Easy to use – just select the new GPU solver when you are ready to run your model

Amazingly fast – no need to worry about using small grid sizes or expensive GPU cards

Highly accurate – using the same benchmarked and widely accepted solvers

Very stable – designed for both normal and rapidly varying flow conditions

The 2D GPU solver can be dynamically linked to Flood Modeller’s 1D River and 1D Urban solvers enabling you to significantly reduce the time it takes to run your fully integrated models. As it is fully embedded within Flood Modeller and integrated with our 1D solvers you have less to worry about and greater opportunities to benefit from the many other features coming in version 5.1.

Our latest testing of the 2D GPU solver has demonstrated runtime savings of up to 94% when using the NVIDIA Quadro T2000 GPU (typically found in a laptop) compared to a i7-9850H CPU @2.60 GHz. We have also tested it on a higher specification GPU (GeForce RTX 2080 Ti) which resulted in runtime savings of up to 98%.

To find out more, register for our upcoming webinar on Wednesday 29th September at 12pm BST, where we will demonstrate these new capabilities live.

If you have a current support and maintenance contract and you’re interested in getting early access to our new GPU solver, by being a beta tester, please raise a support ticket.
