As a Software Developer/Research Engineer (Flood Modelling) in Swindon, you will have the chance to join the No.1 deliverer of flood risk management services in the UK, working as part of an integrated, forward thinking and highly skilled team with the opportunity to learn from and assist key industry experts. Working with other members of the team, you’ll primarily be working on a range of flood and water projects researching methods, and developing and applying software to help solve the tough challenges that our clients face. During your time with us, you will have the opportunity to work on assessing options and recommending preferred approaches; Developing and implementing methods in software; Applying modelling software on projects and you will work directly with internal and external clients. The minimum qualifications for this position are:
  • Numerate background - a degree in engineering, maths, science, computing or similar.
  • Demonstrable research knowledge, preferably industrial research in the flood or water sectors.
  • Software development knowledge, with significant proven ability in one or more of: C#, Python, Fortran, SQL, JavaScript, PHP.
  • Technical expertise in CFD, flood risk analysis, preferably including UK-standard flood modelling software (e.g. Flood Modeller, TUFLOW).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of visualisation and GIS.  
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
  • Be skilled at collaborative working, with good interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Have the ability to produce high quality technical writing for bid and project work.
  • Have good verbal skills when communicating with stakeholders including technical and non-technical parties – proven ability of delivering training is an advantage.
  • MSc/PhD in relevant technical areas will be an advantage.
