Hi,

I'm a student trying to install the Flood Modeller software on my personal laptop but my Avast antivirus picked up the virus detailed in the title - IDP.ALEXA.51.

I don't want to risk continuing the installation in case my computer is infected. The virus was quarantined but how do I know there won't be more of it if I run it again?

Does anyone know whether there are any other download locations online which I could use?

Thanks

Bob

Hi David

We have had reports that some antivirus software get confused by one of the third party components used by Flood Modeller and wrongly report it as a threat. The file in question is "freeimage.dll" so if you see this mentioned in the virus report then it should be safe to continue with the install (if you Google "freeimage.dll" there should be various information on this). If FreeImage is not mentioned in the report from your antivirus, then please can you provide further details so we can investigate further.

Regards

Bob

Hi Bob,

Freeimage.dll wasn't picked up by my antivirus, the only virus that was detected was IDP.ALEXA.51 - which was attached to the floodmodeller_x64.exe file.

Is it possible for the download on this site to be updated with new and clean installation files?

Many thanks

Bob

Hi David

Having researched your issue further it looks like what you are seeing is a "false positive" from your antivirus software. There are plenty of articles online referring to IDP.ALEXA.51 as such, in particular see this link https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000LTe4AAG for an article from the AVG support forum. Further evidence to suggest this is a false positive is that not all antivirus software is picking it up. We downloaded the installer from the website again today to re-test and McAfee found no issues.

Hopefully this information will allay your fears regarding the Flood Modeller installer

Bob
