when modelling a culvert and one looks at its long section, can one explain when the culvert is surcharged, the long section provides a waterlevel above the soffit level of the culvert for the length of the culvert to its outlet? regards

Hi,

This is because it shows the effective/pressurised head as opposed to the physical water level. NB All the internal calcs for water level are performed using the former (effectively it uses an infinitely small slot in the top).
