Enhanced 1D simulation tool

Posted 05/01/2016 18:28 by Bob

No replies yet

Provide 1D simulation functionality to enable multiple steady state runs to be easily set up and run in a single operation. This could speed up the process of defining appropriate initial conditions for a model.

Earlier this year, many of our users took part in the 2015 Flood Modeller Pro survey. One of the categories in the survey requested suggestions for new functionality and this yielded some excellent ideas that we hadn’t previously considered. So we thought we'd post these here on the Ideas Lab to hopefully get some further feedback from other users and gain an understanding as to which suggestions would make the biggest difference to the Flood Modeller community. The above idea is one of the suggestions received and the development team would be grateful for any opinions on this.

Enhance auto-interpolate tool

Posted 05/01/2016 18:05 by Bob

Incorporate a user prompt for the maximum separation into the auto-interpolate tool. Currently separation distance is set completely separately in 1D options and you need to remember to set this before you use the tool.

Variable 1D unit

The Variable 1D unit – this would be a single 1D unit that behaves differently depending on the conditions, i.e. take on the characteristics of different existing units. For example a bridge unit that transitions to an orifice unit as flows increase.

2dm_to_ASC batching

When batching up the process of writing maximum grids from 2dm results files, being able to specify an output location to write maximum output grids to would be useful, as would being able to add a preffix/suffix to further identify output files.

Post-processing tools and NFCDD check

Posted 24/08/2015 09:14 by RosieHampson

Would it be possible to develop an NFCDD check/fix type tool to be integrated into the Flood Modeller software? I appreciate Arc/mapping tools are lower priority than modelling tools, however this would be extremely useful in streamlining post-processing of flood outlines.

Georeferencing warning/error messages

Would it be possible to create a shapefile of warning/error messages which appear in the log file? Warnings are already georeferenced in the log file (e.g. WARNING: can't assign 1D link to active domain area at [ x , y ]) and this would be useful information to see in the map view.

PDF of new FloodModeller Manual

Posted 17/08/2015 13:03 by SteveR

Last post 01/08/2016 16:28

With the legacy version of ISIS2D and ISIS1D the online manual was converted to a PDF which I found very useful as I only have one screen. This saved me making several help requests. Consequently could I request that the new onling Flood Modeller reference manual is collated and made available a PDF also or as a few major groupings of PDF's? Having the maunual available as a PDF provides many more print options which are independent of the PC platform on which the software is installed.

Thanks

Plotting channel widths

Posted 27/07/2015 07:42 by prabhanjan

No replies yet

While developing a ISIS-TUFLOW model, the width of the 1D channel would be very much needed to define the banks in 2D domain.

An option to view the width of the river sections graphically would help a lot!
(Or switching between the standard view and channel-width view for a river section)

Raising/lowering bank levels without altering river section data

Posted 03/02/2015 11:53 by Vinny89

No replies yet

It would be very useful if it was possible to raise/lower bank levels on either sides of a river section using a single function without having to go into each individual cross section.

It would make it easier to model different scenarios.

.bmp produced at end of simulation

Posted 06/01/2015 19:41 by PHA

No replies yet

I know it's not a big thing, but could we perhaps move with the times and have the .bmp produced at the end of the run generated as a .png instead? These are smaller and I don't think any less universally accepted these days (I estimate approcximately 50x reduction is file size).

In a recent set of some hundreds of runs, this would have reduced the contribution to overall filesize from 8.5% to approximately 0.166%!

Like I say, it's by no means a big deal, but I would think it's not a big thing for you to change either. :)

Bridge Distance and Related Chainage

Posted 21/07/2014 14:33 by ethanmcgowan

It would be beneficial to have the chainage discounted in the bridge unit recognised properly. Maybe by inserting a value in the bridge unit and ISIS applying the chainage or by inserting some kind of chainage unit.

1D Tutorials similar to those provided for ISIS 2D

Posted 09/04/2014 08:30 by SteveR

Last post 09/04/2014 08:30

I have been following your 2D tutorials which I have found to be excellent and they enhance the quick 2D guide greatly.

It would be beneficial if a similar 1D tutorial was available demonstrating all the structures and other facilities within ISIS 1D and extending the 1D quick guide.

Generally I will be building 1D 2D linked models so having good and appropriate 1D models to embed in the 2D is important.

One benefit would be to enhance the support for remote users like myself in Australia.

Thanks

Steve

Sensibility check on culvert inlet headloss

Posted 20/02/2014 09:20 by Konrad

No replies yet

I have had two people in the last fortnight independently reporting that Inlet Control is giving too high a headloss in the Culvert Inlet unit; therefore, how about further sensibility check on the loss obtained from inlet control modes?
Currently, the process is to calculate losses for both inlet and outlet control and to choose the worst case scenario, irrespective of whether it seems sesnible.
The idea was therfore suggested to apply a further limitation, e.g. constrain the headloss to be no more than kv^2/2g, where k is a new parameter selected by the user.

ISIS-TUFLOW-ISIS FAST three way linked model

It is great if ISIS can link to FAST and TUFLOW or ISIS 2D at the same time, e.g. left bank linked to FAST domain and right bank linked to TUFLOW/ISIS 2D domain.

Selection of type of licence when opening isis

Posted 29/09/2013 09:54 by Miguel M Piedra

Last post 29/09/2013 09:54

Hello,
I would like ISIS to develop a tool whereby at the time of opening ISIS a window would open asking for the type of licence the user wishes to open: a)Free, b)Under 1000 nodes and c)Over 1000 nodes. This will be very useful for networked licences so the user can decide which licence to use depending on their needs; so a full licence is not taken when only tasks that can be done with the free version are required.
This will help optimise licence use and avoid occupying higher-level licences unnecessarily.

Many thanks
Miguel

Interpolated river cross-section

Posted 04/09/2013 12:36 by Lei Yang

No replies yet

I am looking for another format for an Interpolated river unit in ISIS but couldn't find.

The only feature of interpolated unit in ISIS I can see is an invisible unit - I. I would like to see a visible interpolated unit automatically created by ISIS after calculating weighted river section properties. This type of format of interpolation would allow user to mannually edit the unit and would appear the same format as a normal River Section.

The reason:
During ISIS-Tuflow modelling, the 1D-2D link normally becomes a key contributing to model stability. If it was a 1D only model the interpolated units in the current format would be fine. If a ISIS 1D having many interpolated sections was transferred to create a linked ISIS-Tuflow flood model, some instability issues would be likely to occur at some stages. I experienced many instability issues caused by the linked 1D-2D boundary line's problem. I suggest that a visible format of interpolated river unit can avoid some instability problem occuring to a linked ISIS-Tuflow model build by not having a hidden link.

Hope this wold be helpful.
Thanks.
Lei

PDF of complete manual

Posted 18/07/2013 18:16 by SteveR

Last post 18/07/2013 18:16

It would be nice to have the option of a PDF of the complete Manual available as a single PDF document which could be downloaded and printed by the user similar to that provided by the US Corp of Engineers with HecRas. On line reference is very good and I understand things change but a dated copy citing the model version with a disclaimer placing the onus on the user to update would be appreciated by at least one user and possibly others. If you don't have two screens switching between the manual and the application can be inconvenient.

Be able to save our plot setting

Posted 29/04/2013 15:57 by gaelGDB

No replies yet

I didn't find a way to save my plot settings, is it possible? If not it would be great to add this possibility.
For example, when I plot a cross section, I'd like to always have displayed the upstream section and the Mannings instead of each time have to go tick the options in Edit Chart Series.
Thanks
Gael

Missing IED error message

Posted 21/03/2013 14:02 by bengibson

Last post 21/03/2013 14:02

Could consideration be given to ISIS not starting a simulation if an IIC or IED file specified within an IEF file is not found at the supplied path on initialising a simulation?

For instance a prompt could appear for the user to either continue with the simulation or exit.

This would seem sensible to prevent possible errors in the data applied within the model.
