The Somerset Levels and Moors are a managed catchment with the flow of water being controlled by a network of structures and pumping stations. During winter 2013-2014, the catchment experienced widespread flooding.
Scheme design, Scotland
Glasgow City Council embarked on the White Cart Water Flood Prevention Scheme, using our 1D solver, to provide a sustainable, environmentally friendly solution to the flooding problem, comprising modest urban flood defences.
Watershed modeling, USA
CH2M has used the 2D FAST (Dynamic) solver within Flood Modeller Pro to identify areas with the highest risk of flooding as part of a watershed assessment for Radnor Township in Pennsylvania, USA.
Catchment plan, Argentina

QGC Pty Ltd utilised our 2D FAST solver to carry out an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) in Queensland, Australia. The study area was 1,200 square kilometers and as part of the project, potential flood risk was assessed.
Flood mapping, Australia
To understand the extent of flood for Yanga National Park, a large River Red Gum forest covering 760 km2 in Australia, the New South Wales government has utilised the 2D FAST solver as an environmental water management tool.
Breach analysis, USA
CH2M performed dam-breach modeling using the 1D and 2D solvers within Flood Modeller Pro to confirm hazard classification of the Lane City Reservoir dam and develop dam-failure inundation maps for an Emergency Action Plan.
Flood mapping, Canada
A flood mapping study for the Grand River watershed in Southern Ontario was carried out using the 2D ADI and FAST solvers to produce fluvial flood outlines and flood depths. The study provided an understanding of potential flood risk and property damages.
Inundation mapping, USA
The possible effects of forecasted precipitation, sea level rise, storm surge and river dynamics in and around the Boston Water and Sewer Commission’s service area for the present and future years has been mapped using the 2D FAST solver.
Tidal modelling, England
To map flood risk from a potential tidal storm surge propagating up the Lowestoft Estuary and into Lake Lothing, the 2D ADI solver was used to develop a model to incorporate the estuary, Lake Lothing and the Kirkley Stream channel.
Pluvial flood risk, Ireland
The 2D FAST solver has been used to provide a rapid assessment of potential locations where pluvial flooding may occur as part of the Flood Risk Assessment and Management Study for the Fingal and East Meath region in Ireland.
Risk mapping, Philippines
The Philippines Department of Science and Technology has instigated The Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (NOAH) programme to help understand and manage this risk, using our 2D ADI and FAST solvers.
Watershed modeling, USA
As part of a countywide study, CH2M has modeled and mapped the existing and future conditions floodplains for all flooding sources with a drainage area of 100 acres or greater on a watershed by watershed basis, using Flood Modeller Pro.
Breach analysis, Scotland
British Waterways Scotland (now Scottish Canals) requested that a breach analysis of Cobbinshaw Reservoir should be carried out to reassess the dam category. Our 2D TVD solver proved to be the most appropriate tool for this project.
